In Luke 8, when Jesus steps ashore in the land of the Gerasenes, a demon-possessed madman who had been chained up and broken free many times was living naked in the cementary. When the demon-possessed man saw Jesus, he fell at His feet and shouted, "What are you doing here Jesus. You are Jesus, the Son of the Most High God." ]
In Mark 1, we are told that Jesus didn't allow the demons to speak because they knew who He is.
In Mark 4:11, John Mark wrote that "Whenever a demon saw Jesus, it would throw the person down at Jesus' feet screaming out, 'You are the Son of God!"
In Luke 4:34, we see that the demon says, "You are Jesus of Nazareth, God's Holy One." Jesus rebuked the demon and told him to be quiet.
One of the tests to ensure that a testimony or eye-witness account in history is to see if there details given in the account. The details could include names of people, city name, location in the city, a street name, names or occupations of the people just to name a few.
In each of these accounts details are given illustrating their authenticity.
In the historical account or story of the demon-possessed man in Luke 8:26-36 soe of the details shared by the writer Dr. Luke (a physician) are eastern shore, land of Gerasenes, madman chained and broke free many times, naked roaming in cemetery by the eastern shore, hillside nearby, cliff, people in region come out to see, man clothed in right mind speaking to Jesus, and Jesus returning to Galiliee after sending the man to go tell people back home. All of these details would be verifiable by location and those who saw and heard.
On a day that celebrates the demonic, ghosts, and spooks maybe we should seek to acknowledge the one who can cast out the demonic as the Son of the Most High God.
Even the demons believe Jesus is who He is.
Do you?
